A Dream Come True: Snorkeling with Manatees in Crystal River, Florida
My son, Fabian, is bursting with excitement as he spots the manatee. His eyes are wide with wonder, sparkling with pure joy as he points to the gentle giant floating toward us. The manatee, with its round snout and whiskers sticking out in every direction, looks like he’s smiling right at us. Calm and curious, it glides closer, as if he’s inviting us into his world. Honestly, it’s like nature decided to cross a potato with a walrus and absolutely nailed it!
We snorkel slowly through the murky water with just masks and snorkels, and a pool noodle. No flippers - stirring up the muddy bottom would ruin visibility. The noodle helps us float gently, keepingMy son can’t stop grinning, and honestly, neither can I. This is it, the dream we’ve talked about for so long, now coming to life in the most incredible way!

Best Manatee Snorkel Tour in Crystal River
If you’re dreaming of swimming with manatees, let us tell you all about our incredible adventure with Plantation Adventure Tours! As a family of five, we couldn’t have been happier with how well-organized, exciting, and family-friendly the entire experience was.
The day started at the dive shop, where we we fitted with wetsuits that were not only comfortable but aso helped with buoyancy, making it easier to stay afloat and fully enjoy the experience. Even the kids were perfectly suited up. After getting ready, we watched an informative video that explained the rules for swimming with manatees, which helped us understand how to approach these gentle creatures in a calm and respectful manner.
Once the briefing was over, we boarded our private boat, complete with snorkels, masks and a special touch- pool noodles! Having the boat to ourselves was an added bonus, making the experience feel even more personal.
Our captain, Mike, and our in-water guide, Tyler, were both amazing. As we cruised through the serene waters of Kings Bay, Mike shared fascinating facts about manatees and their habitat, which got us even more exited for what was to come. When we arrived at a spot with manatees, the excitement hit full force. Tyler hopped into the water with us and guided us to where these majestic creatures were peacefully floating and swimming. The manatees were so calm and curious - it was absolutely magical being in the water with them. Tyler was phenomenal with the kids, making sure they were comfortable and helping them enjoy every moment without feeling nervous.
After our swim, we climbed back onto the boat to warm up. This is where Plantation Adventure Tours really stood out - they gave us cozy warming jackets (which were a lifesaver since we were wet!), dry towels, and even hot chocolate and coffee to sip on during the ride back. Every detail was thought through to keep us warm and comfortable.
To top it all off, Tyler took professional photos during our time in the water. We purchased them afterwards for $40 plus tax, and they were worth every penny. The pictures perfectly captured the highlights of our adventure and gave us memories to cherish forever.
